Open Question: where to go on the appalacian trail?

my brother and myself (both of us are in excellent shape) are going on a one month backpacking trip on the appalacian trail. right when school ends which is early june were goign to be starting somewhere in pennsylvania but were not sure to go north or south from there any input would help alot and how many miles you think are possible a day and any other input you might have thanks in advance for your help
