Open Question: Hiking the Appalachian Trail?

I'd like to hike the entire trail in 2012 (June-October). My brother's friend accomplished it this past summer, which after hearing about his travels ensured my decision. I'm having trouble finding decent guides/journals/tips on the web, though. Any of you have any links that could provide me with some information? Thanks!
