They are looking for organizations that do camping, hiking, outdoor skills, etc...
@Chris
What makes it different it that I was 14 when I earned Eagle. At the time I was not an atheist, and did not realize that they banned homosexuals from their ranks and leadership. I don't have kids, but I understand where my friends are coming from. It his hard to let your children belong to an organization that openly supports bigotry.
@Trish
You make a very very good point. Although I don't particularly like gender based discrimination, at least a girl has Girl Scouting, which does not discriminate based on religion or sexual orientation. In fact, they do not even discriminate based on gender identification. Kids who are anatomically male, but gender identify as female are still allowed in the Girl Scouts.
@Chris
Sounds like you are the bigot by suggesting that over 50% of the world's population that does not believe in a Christian god must somehow be immoral.
I am not suggesting the Boy Scouts have to change. It is a private organization that has every right to be bigoted if they want. However, I do think it is immoral to be involved in an organization that has openly anti-gay policies. My question was asking about alternatives.
@? I am not opposed to the Boy Scouts right to exclude who they want. Again, I am only asking about alternatives. However, there have been troops who have tried to adopt a non-discrimination policy only to have their charters pulled by the BSA national headquarters.
